RN, CLNC
Legal Nurse Consultant, Under Oath Instructor

Hello and welcome to Under Oath! It is a privilege and honor to be one of the instructors in your educational journey on nursing litigation protection. I earned my Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Brigham Young University – Idaho and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Brigham Young University – Provo. I have obtained certifications as a Legal Nurse Consultant and International Validation Teacher, and I hold an active RN license in Arizona and the District of Columbia. I am currently the owner and lead consultant for KR Thomas and Associates and co-owner of Under Oath, LLC. I am also an active member of the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.

I have served as an RN for 23 years and have held the clinical positions of Nurse Manager at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colorado; Nurse Supervisor, Minimum Data Set Coordinating Nurse, and Assistant Director of Nursing at Westchester Care Center in Tempe, Arizona; RN Case Manager at Optum in Arizona; and National RN Team Lead for the Transitions to Skilled Nursing Facility Program at Optum/United Health Group. RN case management within a skilled care system has been a key role in my positions with these organizations.

Beyond these professional endeavors, I served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spent 18 months in Taiwan where I learned and taught the beautiful people there in their own language, Mandarin Chinese. I also spent 6 months studying in Jerusalem and traveling throughout Israel and Turkey. During another grand adventure, I then backpacked throughout China with one of my best friends. After coming back to America and settling into my career as a nurse, I married my sweetheart, Wade. We have one darling daughter who brings great JOY to our lives!

After becoming a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant in 2020, I had the privilege of working with Robert and eventually became the lead subcontractor for Malaer Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC. I have reviewed and analyzed over 120 cases and written comprehensive medical-legal reports for each. Currently, I serve one of the largest and most well-known firms in Arizona and have screened over 800 medical malpractice cases. Years of experience including reviewing millions of pages of medical records, screening hundreds of medical malpractice claims, and reporting gaps where nurses have deviated from the standards of care, have highlighted key areas where nurses require litigation protection the most. I’m THRILLED to be part of the Under Oath, LLC team and share these powerful insights with you!

Instructor and Process Facilitator

I am and always have been a teacher at heart. I was blessed to serve in the Texas public education system as a secondary school teacher, campus assistant principal, principal and then central office administrator in both rural and urban school districts for 27 years. After retiring, I founded Hinze Educational Consulting where our motto is “Leading with Heart.” As the owner and lead consultant, I continue my work to support educators across the nation at all levels in improving their practice with instruction, leadership and team dynamics, by providing high quality, engaging and interactive professional learning experiences and implementation support services. I also enjoy serving as a consultant and professional learning facilitator for Learning Forward, a national organization whose sole mission is to promote quality professional learning for educators that leads to improved instruction and higher levels of achievement for students. I also love designing curriculum and facilitating learning sessions for Learning Forward’s state affiliate Learning Forward Texas, and currently serve as the regional affiliate leader for Learning Forward Central Texas, an amazing group of like-minded leaders who learn and grow together.

In 2021, seeking to expand my impact into the medical industry, I joined efforts with 3 brilliant partners to support graduate nurses with impactful professional learning. Together we established Under Oath, LLC, a company focusing on promoting nursing standards of care, exemplary patient care and medical litigation awareness, prevention and protection for nurses.

Jerusha Malaer

Public Relations

Marketing & Sales Director

My husband, Robert, and I founded Malaer Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC (MLNC) in 2015. We proved to be a dynamic team with his clinical experience combined with my marketing experience. My extensive marketing career in the senior living industry ranged from community living to corporate levels. I served as the Director of Marketing overseeing approximately 25 senior retirement and assisted living communities across the continental United States, Canada, and Hawaii and as Director of Resident Enrichment overseeing 350 senior retirement communities, national and international, consisting of 35,000 senior residents and 10,000 employees.

Currently, I enjoy my role as Office Administrator of MLNC focusing on financials, marketing, and assisting our hand-selected team of nurses and medical bill reviewers. Watching this joint endeavor grow to national and international levels has been exciting and extremely rewarding. The client and attorney referrals have been the greatest complements as MLNC continues to grow and expand. Our team of experts provide the highest quality, objective medical record and billing reviews and reports.

After MLNC became productive and stable, I became a licensed real estate broker and Certified Senior Real Estate Specialist and started a new real estate company, Senior Nation Real Estate Group, with Windemere Willamette Valley. I specialize in assisting senior citizens in selling their homes and downsizing or transitioning to retirement or skilled nursing facilities. I have achieved top broker status in our office, top 1% company-wide, and top 15% nationally. It is an absolute joy and privilege to serve seniors again and assist my husband with MLNC.

On a personal level, I have a heart for serving others, and one of my most rewarding hobbies and passions is serving abroad. My first trip overseas was as a high school exchange student in Bavaria, Germany. While living there, I became fluent in the language and came to love the German culture and people.

I then decided to attend a Bible school in Hawaii, Youth With A Mission (YWAM), and served as a Christian missionary for three months alongside the American Red Cross after the 1995 earthquake in Kobe, Japan. I quickly learned Japanese while being emersed in the aftermath of that tragedy. While making and serving miso soup to hundreds out of a makeshift kitchen on a daily basis, I loved interacting and conversing with Japanese people and being immersed in their beautiful culture. I also served as a medical missionary in Africa and the Brazilian Amazon where I assisted physicians and dentists in triaging patients and providing treatments and procedures. I was able to learn some of the Oromo language, which allowed me to translate for the providers. I hope to return to missionary work in the future, but in the meantime, I continue to support those in the field in any way I can.
